Job Description

The Laboratory Manager performs technical laboratory work collecting and analyzing raw water for chemical, physical, and bacteriological characteristics.

Statement of Purpose:

To manage the activities of American Beverage Company’s laboratory and ensure its smooth operation and efficient functioning. The Incumbent is responsible for organizing and directing the daily activities in the laboratory with minimum supervision and a complete understanding of the systems involved. This position is considered a working supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Collect raw water samples from various locations in a valid manner consistent with good laboratory practice
  • Test, and analyze all related water samples collected to determine physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological content in support of efficient operation of water treatment operations
  • Prepare reagents, chemicals, bacteriological analysis, and standard test solutions; perform mathematical calculations and statistical analyses for test results
  • Perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological, and bacteriological qualitative and quantitative tests of water samples necessary to ensure that plant processes meet established water treatment standards
  • Maintain records of tests conducted and their results within quality control and quality assurance parameters; notify supervisors of violations or problems indicated from data; and prepare reports for management as necessary, as directed, and on a regular basis
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, fixtures, and samplers; perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, including the calibration, maintenance, and service of laboratory and process control instrumentation; maintain laboratory in a clean and orderly manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year at an industrial water purification plant operation with the direct responsibility of water quality analysis and water quality instrument calibration
  • Identify potential problems or areas for improvement and provides solutions
  •  Must possess knowledge and understanding of water analyses and treatment techniques and support equipment utilized in the water treatment process
  •  Must possess basic computer skills and communicate effectively as interfacing with other support departments will be required
  • Familiarity with the country regulations where applicable.

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory setting with exposure to hazardous materials
  • Willingness to live and work under environmental and other conditions that may be uncomfortable at times
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
  • Requires periods of non-traditional hours including consecutive nights or weekends when necessary

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Science or Medical Technology
  • Four (4) to six (6) years’ experience in a laboratory environment with similar functions
  • ASCP,AMT, HEW or other laboratory certification
  • supervisory: 3 years (Required)
  • EPA Regulated Industry: 3 years (Preferred)
  • QA/QC: 3 years (Preferred)
